Famous Dogs
73Your dog is probably very important to you, and even if he is not on television or in the movies, your dog is a celebrity in his own right. So no offense to anybody's dog; however, there are some dogs that are well known around the world.
Here are some of my most memorable dogs. See how many of them your are familiar with.
RIN TIN TIN
Rin Tin Tin is one of the most famous German shepherds that has been on the radio, televison, and movies.
The Adventures of Rin Tin Tinwas an American children's television show that aired 166 episodes on ABC from 1954 to 1959. It was a story about Rusty, a boy orphaned in an Indian raid. Rusty and his dog, Rin Tin Tin were raised by the soldiers at Fort Apache. Rusty and his hero German shepherd dog, Rin Tin Tin, helped the soldiers establish order in the American West.
LASSIE
Lassie was a fictional dog female Collie who first appeared in a short story that expanded to novel length called Lassie Come Home in 1943.
In 1954, Lassie debuted as a the long running, Emmy winning television series. Lassie has appeared in radio, television, film, toys, comic books, animated series, juvenile novels, and other media. Lassie initially resided on a farm with a young boy. The long running series was the recipient of two Emmy Awards before it was canceled in 1973.
Lassie continues to make personal appearances as well as marketing a line of pet food and a current pet care TV show on PBS. In 2005, Lassie was named one of the 100 Icons of all time, the only animal star on the list included in the show business journal Variety.
Lassie and Rin Tin Tin both came to television in 1954. In both shows, the dogs were the main characters. And in both shows, a boy was the dog’s best friend. Lassie and Rin Tin Tin are two of the three animals with stars on the Hollywook Walk of Fame.
BULLET
Bullet was Roy Rogers' German shepherd dog. Bullet and Rogers golden palomino Trigger were featured in more than 100 movies and The Roy Roy Show. The show was on radio for nine years before moving to television from 1951 through 1957.
SNOOPY
Snoopy is one of the most famous cartoon characters in the world created by Charles Schultz. The beagle belonging to Charlie Brown first appeared in the Peanuts comic strip in 1950. It appeared on television in 1965 in A Charlie Brown Christmas special that appears on television every year since then.
Snoopy is not just a cartoon character. He has become a cultural icon all over the world.
PLUTO
Pluto is an animated Disney cartoon character. Pluto most frequently appeared as Mickey Mouse's pet dog. In the 1930s, 1940s and 1950s, Pluto also had an independent role starring in 48 Disney films.
Because Pluto is associated with Mickey Mouse, he has been listed as the fifth most popular Disney character of all time after Mickey Mouse, Donald Duck, Minnie Mouse and Goofy. Pluto was named #1 in The 100 Greatest Animated Pets of all Time.

Mines would either be London from Little Hobo or Bolt. :-)
Hi, The littlest hobo was a popular TV show in the late 70's and early 80's, similar to Lassie, about a "Travelling" dog that would wander from town to town befriending and helping strangers..

I only choose Bolt because I like the concept of a dog that "believes" he has super powers but infact does not :-)
really mnice hub them dogs are so cute
@DOGS 101...Good for you on sharing this Hub!
I am familiar with all these dog heroes and fictional canines who gave me my first inspiration to write about dogs. I currently am shared by my rescue, Cee-Cee, a Border Terrier mix who is most familiar with my lap!
Snoopy has always been my favorite famous cartoon dog. But you forgot to mention that bulldog Tillman – he’s like the next big famous dog (if he’s not already!) He surfs, skates, and has his own TV show “Who Let The Dogs Out?” on animal planet and it’s BRILLIANT. A must for dog-lovers. He even has his own line of treats – that dude is everywhere.
